Chloe's half marathon for ASRC
Story
Hey guys!
As part of my quarter-life crisis, I have decided to run the Victor Harbour half-marathon in December. As some of you may know, I used to struggle with just running for 10 minutes (eek) and now I'm hoping to take on a hectic 21.1km trot (which I've never done before - double eek)! Running is as much a physical challenge as it is a mental and emotional one for me, and I would love to dedicate my run to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
The ASRC is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that helps support people seeking asylum in Australia. They provide services ranging from emergency relief, meals, healthcare, housing, all the way to longer-lasting advocacy, education, and employment programs - for refugees in offshore detention centres in Nauru and PNG, and also for those onshore in Australia. It is an organisation that I believe is doing an incredible job at supporting people in crisis, and providing ongoing holistic support within the complex (and cruel) asylum seeking system.
If you are able to, I would be extremely grateful and appreciative to anyone who would like to support my half marathon journey by donating to the ASRC. With your support, ASRC can keep helping those who are seeking for a better and safer future in Australia.
ASRC Footscray (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre)
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement.
As an independent not for profit organisation, we are owned and run by our community. Our programs empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well-being. As a movement, we mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change for people seeking asylum in Australia.
We assist over 7,000 people seeking asylum each year from our centres in Footscray and Dandenong, Victoria.
